Do you have a plan? Meteorologist James Spann does.
The longtime Birmingham chief meteorologist is branching out to the entire state.
Spann announced the launch of the Alabama Weather Network will be August 11 with 24/7 weather reports by a large team of experienced meteorologists, live cameras statewide, storm chaser live streams and shared videos and photos.
Spann said that after 47 years of broadcast meteorology, he is finally seeing a dream come true.
“I love this state,” said Spann. “I know it better than anyone, having traveled its back roads for four decades. I know the people, the culture, our geography and our microclimates. For years, one of my dreams has been to provide weather for all of Alabama with a statewide network. I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that my dream is coming true.”
Spann said he will remain with ABC 33/40.
The Alabama Weather Network will provide weather information for all 67 counties and will cover severe weather live whenever there is a threat in the state.
The new weather platform will include an app and will stream on Roku, Apple TV and Chromecast. The Alabama Weather Network is also on Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and YouTube.
Spann told 1819 News the Alabama Weather Network will be beneficial for those in so-called orphan counties, where local news isn’t available.
