State Sen. Jay Hovey (R-Auburn) won the Republican primary for District 27 on Tuesday.
According to the Associated Press, Hovey defeated Lee County Commissioner by a 69% to 31% margin.
Hovey does not have a Democrat opponent in the November general election.
Hovey is employed as a commercial lending officer with ServisFirst Bank in Auburn. Hovey's wife, Anna, is the president and chief executive officer of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce.
