President Joe Biden isn’t adequately representing the nation on the world stage, according to former U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions.
Sessions, a former attorney general in the Trump administration, said on a Thursday edition of “Success Stories” with Allen Mendenhall that former President Donald Trump was able to better negotiate with foreign leaders than Biden.
“[Trump] got the economy moving. He was making progress on the border. He was interfacing one-on-one with foreign leaders, and he was a wheeler-dealer,” Sessions said. “He understands, which some Americans don’t, other nations have interests too. They have things that politically they can’t do. They ask us all the time do A, B, and C and we say, ‘If we do that, we’ll get voted out of office. Sorry, our people don’t want to do that.’ Well, they have some of those things too.”
Sessions said he wasn’t sure who was making foreign policy decisions in the Biden administration.
“I believe a great nation needs a leader who can talk to foreign leaders one-on-one, understand what they’re saying, and make agreements and deals that lead to peace and prosperity for both," he said. "I’m pretty sure he can not do that, Joe Biden. The question I have is: who is making the decisions? I don’t think heavyweights are making it. I’m not saying they’re evil people. I’m just saying I’m not sure they have gravitas. If you’re behind the scenes, it’s not the same as I’m being responsible when I make a commitment to a foreign nation,” Sessions said. “These things should last for a long time. It’s so important that this world settle down and we’ve got dangers out there."
"China as the big threat," Sessions continued. "Russia is now at a point where it’s dangerous. They’ve got more tactical nuclear weapons for sure than the United States does. They’re the number one nuclear arsenal in the world. You need to be able to have a relationship with nations like that. The last thing in the world we want is somehow one of the Ukraines, or something erupts into a nuclear confrontation that would be devastating for millions of people. Americans should have a leader who can participate positively in that kind of situation.”
