Candidate for Jefferson County Commission Jeff Wise has withdrawn from the race and endorsed fellow Republican Mike Bolin for the District 5 seat.

Wise made the announcement Thursday, just days before the election for Jefferson County Commission, District 5, on Tuesday, July 18.

“After talking with Mike today, I feel confident that he is the best person for the position at this time,” Wise said in a statement. “Mike shares my conservative values and will do an outstanding job for us. I entered this race because I want to see our County and our communities reach their full potential. Next Tuesday’s special election for County Commissioner is vitally important to the future of Jefferson County, and I will be voting for Mike Bolin.

Wise thanked his supporters and encouraged everyone to vote for Bolin in the special election next week.

“I am so grateful to my supporters who have encouraged me and supported my campaign over the past month. I appreciate them, the old friends and new that I have met along the way, and their passion to make Jefferson County a better place to live, work, and raise our families. Our work is not done! I encourage all of my friends and supporters to go to the polls next Tuesday, July 18th, and vote for my fellow Conservative Republican Mike Bolin.”

Bolin, a former Alabama Supreme Court Justice, thanked Wise for his support and commended him for working hard in the race.

“I commend Mr. Wise for his hard work in this race and greatly appreciate his support of my candidacy,” states Justice Mike Bolin. “As a lifelong resident of Jefferson County and proud conservative Republican, I am equipped and ready to serve our great community."

In June, Brian Christine also withdrew from the race and endorsed Bolin for the District 5 seat.
