The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified two children who drowned at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson.
Lola Marie Scott, 10, and King Gotti Scott, 12, both of Tarrant, were playing Saturday afternoon when they became submerged in deep water.
Palmerdale Fire and Rescue, Center Point Fire and Rescue and Glenwood Fire and Rescue responded, along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The children were recovered from the water and taken to Children’s of Alabama, where they were pronounced dead.
Turkey Creek Nature Preserve closed Sunday out of respect for those impacted.
“The Jefferson County Greenways community is mourning the tragic loss of life that occurred at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve yesterday,” Turkey Creek Nature Preserve stated. “We want to express our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
