A Jefferson County deputy found himself on the other side of the law after he was accused of assaulting a male inmate of the Jefferson County Jail.
Nicholas Chaz Austin, 24, is charged with second-degree assault and has been arrested.
The sheriff's office is conducting an internal investigation into the matter. Austin was placed on administrative leave. Detectives have not released details on the incident.
