An investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit landed a drug trafficking suspect behind bars with an over $3 million bond.

Ke’von Lashard Atkins, 20, was taken into custody after an operation in the 1100 block of Birchwood Street in Birmingham. SWAT and the Highway Safety Unit assisted.

Detectives seized 373 grams of methamphetamine, nearly nine grams of fentanyl, two Xanax pills and two ecstasy pills. Also found at the scene was nearly $5,000 in cash, six cell phones and a Glock 19.

“The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to combating illegal narcotics activity and ensuring the safety of the community,” said Sheriff Mark Pettway.

Atkins was charged with two counts of drug trafficking. His bond was set at $3,010,000. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
