Late Tuesday, U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chairman U.S. Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) announced they had endorsed U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) in Alabama's contested open U.S. Senate Race.

The backing from the two high-ranking U.S. Senators is the latest in a string of endorsements for Moore, who earned President Donald Trump's support earlier this year.

"Barry Moore has been a strong conservative voice for the people of Alabama, and I know he'll bring that same commitment as we work to pass our shared Republican agenda in the Senate. I'm proud to endorse Barry in his race to become the next U.S. Senator from Alabama," Thune said in a statement from the NRSC.

"Barry Moore has proven himself to be a strong, conservative champion for Alabama and President Trump's agenda. His tireless fight for common sense is exactly what Alabama expects from their next U.S. Senator, and I look forward to working with him to secure prosperity for the next generation," Scott added in the press release.

Moore faces Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jared Hudson and Lineville businessman Rodney Walker for the Republican nomination. The primary election will take place on May 19.
