Former Alabama Republican Party chairman John Wahl and Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen are headed to a runoff in the Republican primary for lieutenant governor.

With 63% of the votes in on Tuesday night, Wahl led Allen with 41% to 38%. Since neither candidate received 50% of the vote, they'll face each other in a runoff election on June 16.

Agriculture and Industries Commissioner Rick Pate received 7%, Nicole Wadsworth received 6%, Pat Bishop received 3%, Stewart Tankersley received 3%, and George Childress received 2%.

Wahl or Allen will face State Rep. Phillip Ensler (D-Montgomery) in the November general election.
