Members of the Jacksonville State University Student Senate voted down a resolution urging the Student Government Association to acknowledge the kingship of Jesus Christ on March 17.
The resolution died after members debated whether it was unconstitutional.
"By the students in Jacksonville State University that the Jacksonville State University Student Government Association acknowledges the kingship of Jesus Christ over all the world so that this great university may, at last, receive the great blessing of real liberty, well-ordered discipline, peace and harmony," Nick Shell said reading from the resolution, according to The Chanticleer.
According to the outlet, Shell said, "It's an urging of acknowledgement... It's not saying we establish Christ's law on this university and you have to follow it. It hasn't been like that since I wrote it."
Ella Caldwell, a JSU freshman majoring in special education, told 1819 News on Friday the resolution failing made her angry.
"It makes me angry because they allow LGBTQ events on campus but won't do this, "Caldwell said. "We voted on them to represent us, too. It's not fair."
