Justin Pruett announced on Sunday that he would not be challenging State Sen. Pro-Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) in State Senate District 4 in the upcoming May primary.
Pruett said in a statement to Cullman Daily, “To the Voters of Senate District 4, My family has been humbled by the hundreds of calls, texts and messages as last week as I announced my intentions to seek the Republican nomination for State Senate District 4.”
“Stepping into the political arena in today's times is not an easy decision, not just for the candidate but also the candidate’s family. I was introduced to politics in 1992 at the age of 10, riding on the back of my grandfather’s hay trailer putting out signs in the Fairview community for then first-time candidate Judge Kim Chaney,” Pruett said. “I still remember Judge Chaney sitting in my grandparents' living room trying to earn their support and he did. I still believe campaigns are won on the ground, meeting with every voter, listening to their concerns, representing with integrity and putting your constituents first. We are a long way from 1992 in today's political landscape.”
He continued, “Over the past several days, my family and I have got to see the power of social media both positively and negatively and the influence it can have on campaigns and after much thought and prayer with the support of my family I have decided to NOT seek the Senate Seat for District 4. I informed Senator Gudger earlier and I wish him nothing but the best. I also send my best wishes to JR Bowling, as I said earlier it's not easy to put yourself out there.”
“Lastly, despite the District issues Me and Senator Gudger agree on or disagree on in regards to past Legislation or Legislation that will be introduced in the upcoming session we are fortunate as a District to be represented by the Senate Pro Tempore, the highest leadership position a Senator can have voted on by his or her peers in Montgomery,” Pruett said.
