If there are any doubts if Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer is the right man for the job, those doubts were answered on Saturday.
DeBoer is usually a pretty calm and composed guy on the sidelines, but Saturday he did his best Nick Saban impression and ripped into the officials. Just before halftime, there was an obvious pass interference call that was missed by the officials, and a heated DeBoer let them know that they missed the call.
During his press conference on Monday, DeBoer was asked about his fiery moment coming from someone who is generally calm on the field.
"I was just fighting for my team,” DeBoer said. “I know they were out there fighting and doing everything they could. I loved the way we were playing up until that point, I wanted to keep it going. I just saw it a certain and wanted to make it known."
According to DeBoer, the fiery outbursts are not predetermined but sometimes happen when it’s a big game or a big moment and he sees it a different way.
“I just felt like that was a big time in the game,” DeBoer said. “We were doing a lot of things well. Just some opportunities we didn’t take advantage of as a team. That moment right there, we talk about the middle eight (minutes) and going into the locker room with a lot of momentum. I know we got a safety there, right in that area too. There were some missed opportunities would loved to have had.”
Despite the missed call, Alabama took a 30-7 lead into the half. The Crimson Tide blew the lead in the second half, but some big plays from freshman Ryan Williams helped secure the 41-34 victory.
Alabama will travel to Vanderbilt on Saturday. Kickoff time is set for 3:15 p.m. CT and will be televised on the SEC Network.
