A $9 billion rescissions package being debated in the U.S. Senate is a “common sense approach” to cutting spending, according to U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery).

The Senate is debating legislation that claws back previously allocated funding. The $9 billion in total cuts targets foreign funding and public broadcasting, among other things. The package is supported by Trump and has already passed the House. The deadline to pass the measure is Thursday.

Britt said in an interview on Fox News Channel's "The Will Cain Show" on Wednesday, “This is not our money, this is the money of hardworking Americans and never did they want it going to fund sex workers in Nepal.”

“Never did they want it going to increase diversity in the lighting community in Mexico. I mean, this is absolutely absurd,” she added. “This is a common sense approach. This money was way outside of the mission of what it was intended for. We’ve got to rein that in. We have to cement our values and our opportunity for our people. To your point, this is the easy stuff and the American people deserve better. This is their money, this is not ours and we’ve got to treat it like such and we’ve got to be more responsible.”
