U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) announced on Thursday her Alabama First leadership PAC is contributing $10,000, the maximum amount allowable, to the congressional campaign of State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise).

Marques announced on Thursday that he is seeking the Republican nomination for Alabama's Congressional District 1.

"Rhett is a great friend and a strong conservative fighter who has always had my back and President Trump's," Britt said in a statement on Thursday. "Having been born and raised in Baldwin County and then having raised his own family in the Wiregrass, Rhett is uniquely positioned to champion the priorities and values of this incredible district. I am excited about the fresh leadership Rhett is bringing to the table and congratulate him on launching his campaign for Congress. I have no doubt that the First Congressional District will thrive with Rhett at the helm."

Former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) and Joshua McKee have already announced their intentions to seek the Republican nomination. The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), who recently announced that he is running for U.S. Senate instead of seeking re-election.
