Kent Lawrence emerged from Tuesday’s municipal elections as Decatur’s new mayor, defeating three other opponents after incumbent Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling chose not to seek reelection.
Lawrence received 6,201 votes, or 54.2%, while his opponent, Billy Jackson, received 4,898 votes; William Butch Matthews, 217 votes; and Suzie Wiley, 134 votes.
Terrance Adkins won City Council District 1 with 1,001 votes, incumbent Carlton McMasters won District 3 with 2,234 votes, and Barry Bullard won District 5 with 2,277 votes.
With six candidates vying for the spot, Council District 4 will likely go to a runoff between Sarah French and Pam Werstler, according to unofficial results reported by WAFF48.
