A Lauderdale County school employee is facing multiple charges after allegedly having sex with a student in the school in her home on multiple occasions.
Amy Nicole Wigginton, 41, of Rogersville, was arrested on Friday and placed in the Lauderdale County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
She is charged with two counts of a school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19.
Court records state Wiggington confessed to the crime after she waived her rights.
"Amy Nicole Wigginton committed the offense of School Employee engaging in a sex act with a student who is under the age of 19 years or is a protected person under the age of 22 years when she, being a school employee, engaged in sexual intercourse or sodomy… with a student, or student protected person, regardless of whether the student or student protected person is male or female," the criminal complaint reads.
The complaint claims that Wigginton was employed at an unnamed Lauderdale County school and engaged in sexual intercourse with a student enrolled at the school who was under the age of 19. During an interview, Wigginton allegedly waived her rights and confessed to having sexual intercourse with the student on two separate occasions. The complaint claims the first time they engaged in sexual intercourse was on March 7, the second was on March 31.
Records do not indicate the sex or age of the student in question. The Lauderdale County Board of Education told the Times Daily that Wiggington had been placed on administrative leave.
