No one was injured, and no gun was found on Wednesday after the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) urged the public to avoid the Montgomery VA Hospital on Perry Hill Road while it investigated an “active threat” situation after initially calling it an “active shooter investigation.”
In a release, CAVHCS warned the public that law enforcement was investigating an active shooter situation. It later changed, downgrading the designation to an “active threat.”
“We are working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of everyone on campus,” said Valerie Russell, acting director of CAVHCS. “We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.”
The City of Montgomery released a statement saying Mayor Steven Reed’s chief of staff Chip Hill had spoken with Montgomery Police Department leadership, who informed him that no one on site was found with a gun. He also claimed no one was injured or shot.
