Republican John Knapp, a longtime law enforcement officer, is announcing his candidacy for District 65 of the Alabama House of Representatives.

Knapp has served in the public as a conservation officer, a state trooper, and deputy for both Washington and Clarke Counties. He is also a member of the Alabama Cattleman's Association.

In announcing his intention to run, Knapp noted that his "23 years of public service to his local community has well prepared him to serve his community as a House representative."

"Through his career in law enforcement he has had the opportunity to not only directly combat crime in the district, but he has also helped secure jobs, provide necessary services to those battling drug addiction, assist members of the community dealing with severe mental health issues, and to navigate and resolve domestic violence situationsm," the campaign announcement stated. "He has dealt first hand with the good and the bad of the district. That first hand knowledge well equips him to know the practical steps it takes to minimize the bad and maximize the good."

Knapp emphasized the importance of reducing the tax burden on Alabamians to incentivize industry and agriculture in his district and provide jobs for those willing to work.

"I'm running for House District 65 to bring conservative and common sense practices to Montgomery. My experiences within the district have prepared me for the obstacles that I expect to encounter for my district and state," Knapp stated.

The seat is currently occupied by State Rep. Brett Easterbrook (R-Fruitdale), who is reportedly running State Senate in Mobile County.
