The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) announced the recapture of Antwone Wilson, 34, on Tuesday in Pell City in his second escape from ADOC custody since going behind bars.
Wilson was being transported to UAB Hospital-Highlands in Birmingham for a medical appointment. During the transport, at approximately 8:43 a.m., he escaped from officers and ran away into a vehicle that was waiting for him.
Wilson is an inmate at Donaldson Correctional Facility. He is serving a life sentence for first-degree robbery out of Jefferson County. He had previously escaped from the St. Clair Correctional Facility in 2017 along with another inmate, before being apprehended the following day in Jefferson County.
After Wilson's Wednesday escape, the ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division, in conjunction with state and local law enforcement, began searching for Catrina Johnson, Wilson’s suspected accomplice.
Her car was discovered in the Pell City Walmart parking lot near the police department. Wilson was found in the backseat and taken into custody without incident at approximately 11:28 a.m. Johnson was located at a nearby hotel and detained by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation.
The pair were transported to the St. Clair County Jail. Wilson is charged with first-degree escape out of Jefferson County, and Johnson is charged with first-degree hindering prosecution.
