Abortion pill legislation will be considered by lawmakers when they reconvene for the 2026 legislative session in January, according to State Rep. Jamie Kiel (R-Russellville).

Kiel told host Greg Davis on WXJC Radio's "Priority Talk" on Friday, "All abortions in Alabama now as far as we know are by pill and most by out of state or out of country pill manufacturers."

The Texas Legislature recently passed legislation banning mail-order abortion pills.

"A lot of people think since we passed that law in 2019 that abortion has stopped in Alabama. Really, that's not the case at all," Kiel said. "I think nationwide something like 60% of all abortions now are in the privacy of one's own home with pills. Those things are coming mail order and they're coming into Alabama mail order. It's a real issue in our state. We're looking at ways to address that. Texas has just had very interesting legislation that I believe will do something to thwart the interstate mailing of the pills. A lot of the issue is foreign entities sending pills into the United States and into our states. If anybody thinks that abortion is stopped in Alabama then they're just fooling themselves."
