A Lawrence County shooting range is being sued by a group of local residents claiming their homes have been hit by gunfire from the location.

According to WAFF 48, the lawsuit, filed in Lawrence County Court, accuses the Neighbors of The Inner Circle shooting range of being "negligent and malicious in its operation," while also labeling it a public nuisance. The legal action claims that bullets discharged from the site have previously struck near a child’s bedroom window, with one resident also claiming that a dozen bullets have hit their home since the business opened in 2024.

Those taking part in the lawsuit say the range neglected to install safety containment systems like baffles, berms, and backstops of "sufficient height, width, and composition" to prevent the escape of projectiles.

Inner Circle Shooting Range operator Zack Hill categorically disagreed with the claims.

“None of this is true, none of it’s been proven,” Hill said. “That’s not the direction in which we shoot. There’s just no way. It’s not possible. I just don’t understand why they’re targeting us when there’s other people shooting in the community,” added Hill.

The plaintiffs also claim that after an initial complaint was filed against the range for the gunfire, its operators blocked access to their homes. A judge will rule on the issue on Thursday.
