The Leeds Police Department arrested two people during a traffic stop involving an illegal alien.
Officers conducted the stop in the 7300 block of President Street on January 14. Jacob Garcia Martinez, 41, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a stolen handgun, according to police. Investigators also discovered Martinez was unlawfully in the United States.
While officers were investigating, a woman allegedly interfered by driving up and blocking the roadway. Officers said she began sounding her horn and refused to obey commands.
Mary Lisa Everling, 61, was subsequently arrested and charged with obstructing governmental operations.
“A public service announcement that if we are on a traffic stop and if you interfere with the lawful traffic stop or arrest of someone regardless if they are an illegal alien, where the suspect is in possession of methamphetmines, a stolen firearm and drug paraphernalia you will be arrested,” Leeds Police Department posted on Facebook.
Martinez was charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, second-degree receiving stolen property, obstructing justice using a false ID, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Martinez is being held in the Jefferson County Jail and will be transferred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.
Everling and Martinez are considered innocent until proven guilty.
