Salaries for all Alabama legislators will increase to $62,212 in 2025.

The total is an increase of 4.25% from lawmakers’ 2024 salary of $59,674.

Constitutional Amendment 871, passed by Alabama voters in 2012, ties lawmaker pay to annual changes in the state’s median household income. The 2024 salary of $59,674 was an increase of 10.69% from 2023.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, salaries for Alabama legislators are the highest in the South. 

Southern state salaries for legislators as follows:

  • Alabama: $62,212
  • Arkansas: $44,356
  • Florida: $29,697
  • Georgia: $24,341.64
  • Kentucky: Legislator salary is based on a daily rate of $188.22 per calendar day during session for those whose elected terms started before 2023. Legislators whose elected terms started after 2023 receive $203.28 per calendar day while in session. Legislators can receive daily salary during interim on approved days.
  • Louisiana: $16,800 plus an additional $6,000 per year as an unvouchered expense
  • Mississippi: $23,500
  • North Carolina: $13,951
  • South Carolina: $10,400
  • Tennessee: $28,405.96
