The winner of Guntersville's mayoral race is still uncertain after the two candidates were separated by a single vote in Tuesday's election.

The incumbent, Leigh Dollar, who was first elected in 2012, received 1,062 votes, while Jeff McLaughlin received 1,016. McLaughlin served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 2001 to 2010.

Seven provisional votes are waiting to be counted, which could determine the winner by next week.

Challengers running for the city council took a clean sweep, minus the spots with no opposition.

Richard Manley won District 2 with 231 votes; Jason Jones won District 4 with 215 votes, Joe Cagle won District 5 with 99 votes, and Pete Sparks won District 7 with 193 votes.
