During a call with reporters on Thursday, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) discussed President Donald Trump's ongoing campaign to remove Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro from power.

The senator said sealing the southern border, along with deposing Maduro, will significantly contribute to solving the epidemic of overdoses and drug use in the United States. He also suggested cutting off all oil exports from Venezuela.

"President Trump promised to work to solve this drug crisis. The first step was closing the border," Tuberville explained. "Now he's trying to cut the head off the snake, which is the drugs, weapons and money coming in."

"This president in Venezuela, Maduro, has ruined one of the best countries on the face of the earth. Turns it into communism and socialism. People are starving," he added. "They have more oil there than most places around the world. You're going to start seeing, as you did yesterday, President Trump stopping the flow of oil coming out of Venezuela."

Tuberville called for an end to all outside funding going to Maduro's government, while also suggesting that the despot be deposed through a coup detat conducted by the country's military if necessary.

"It's time to shut the money off, turn the military against the president there, and let the people take this country back over again and turn it back into a democracy and not communism," added Tuberville.
