A liberal candidate for Alabama's fourth congressional district is bemoaning "systemic policy violence" following the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis who appeared to strike a federal agent with her vehicle on Wednesday.

In a press release posted to her campaign Facebook on Thursday, Amanda Puscek attacked ICE agents, while also accusing Republicans of "violence" through "dismantling" certain federal support programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and eliminating the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

"Yesterday, a day that began with hope was eclipsed by senseless violence," Puscek wrote. "The loss of a citizen at the hands of ICE agents in Minneapolis is a tragic reminder of the systemic failures we face."

"We must recognize that violence takes many forms. It is found in the pull of a trigger, but it is also found in the stroke of the pen. The dismantling of SNAP Medicaid, USAID and housing programs represents a quiet, systemic brutality against our most vulnerable to the people of Alabama and the nation," Puscek added.

Puscek filed her initial statement of candidacy in April, declaring for District 5. However, on August 6, she filed an addendum switching to District 4.

Puscek's policy platform includes free health care for all, "ensuring equitable access" in education, "fostering an inclusive society" and "fighting discrimination in all its forms."
