It's a blessing that no one was killed and no one injured.

Lightning struck Camp ASCCA for the physically and mentally disabled on Sunday.

No staff and no campers were hurt.

The camp is having to cease operations. All campers must be picked up by Monday morning.

Camp for this week has been canceled.

There is no word yet on how long the camp will remain out of operation.

The camp is located at 5278 Camp Ascca Drive, Jackson's Gap on Lake Martin.

Camp ASCCA, which stands for Alabama's Special Camp for Children and Adults, is a nationally recognized leader in therapeutic recreation for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. It is the world's largest handicap-accessible or barrier-free recreation camp. The camp operates year-round, offering a range of camping experiences and various activities in a supervised setting. 

The Camp ASCCA mission is to help eligible individuals with disabilities or health impairments achieve dignity and maximum independence through a safe and quality program of camping, therapeutic recreation, and education.

The camp is situated on 230 acres of wooded land along Lake Martin. It camp offers both week-long sessions in the summer and weekend and day camps during the rest of the year.
