The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) reported progress on Gov. Kay Ivey's West Alabama Highway initiative.

The Linden Bypass project continues and is expected to open in late fall of 2025. The 7.7-mile highway, which will form a four-lane, divided highway, was the initiative's first project.

ALDOT said the Linden Bypass will provide economic opportunities to the area, improve connectivity and safety, and reduce congestion through downtown Linden.

The bypass will include two sections: the South and North.

The South Project runs from U.S. 43 south of Linden to SR-28, and the North Project runs from SR-28 to SR-69. The four-lane, divided roadway will be part of the New West Alabama Highway.

ALDOT could open sections of the highway before fall 2025 to help relieve traffic in West Alabama.
