The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting death of Rishard Densmore, 21, of Birmingham.

The former Bessemer City High School football star was named a three-star athlete by 247 Sports and was once ranked 50th best athlete in the state of Alabama.

After high school, Densmore signed on as a wide receiver for Alabama State University. He changed courses last year and planned to play in the fall as a quarterback for Miles College.

Investigators said Densmore was exiting his vehicle near Woodward Estates in Bessemer when someone in another vehicle pulled up beside him abd opened fire.

"The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds but was able to flee the scene," the sheriff's office said in a press release. "He later crashed his vehicle in the 900 block of 24th Street North in Bessemer."

Densmore was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No suspects have been named and arrests have been announced. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 205-245-7777.
