Local media throughout the state devoted wall-to-wall coverage on Saturday to the protests against President Donald Trump's use of the military to arrest Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
All three major news stations in Huntsville covered a single "emergency" protest, identifying at least four groups as hosts of the event.
"Carrying signs saying 'Hands Off' and 'No War In Venezuela,' three dozen men and women marched from Big Spring Park up to and around the Madison County Courthouse Saturday afternoon, protesting the US' attack on Venezuela and abduction of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife," Huntsville's WAAY31 ABC opened their story. The image in the story shows one protester wearing a keffiyeh and another holding a sign reading "Is it Oil or is it Epstein?"
Fox54 also covered the Huntsville protest, explaining that the event was "organized by PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation) and 50501." 50501 was the organization that held the No Kings anti-Trump protests in Huntsville last year.
Meanwhile, WAFF48 reported that "Members of Indivisible, 50501, and Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)" participated in the event.
In Birmingham, ABC3340, WBRC6 and WVTM13 covered the protest.
"The Birmingham chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, Alabama 50501, Food Not Bombs Birmingham, the Birmingham branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, and other local groups gathered at the Five Points South fountain," ABC 3340 reported.
"One protester said the working class people of America will never have enough money to fight back against political leaders, but there is power in numbers, which is why they protested," WVTM13 wrote. Images and videos show multiple individuals wearing keffiyehs.
Jose Sanchez with Students for International Labor Solidarity (SILS) told WBRC6, "We're here in support of Venezuelan brothers from across Latin America, standing in solidarity for them and condemning this action of violence against them."
