The "Wizard of Oz" has been a book, a play on and off Broadway, a 1939 movie and a number of hit songs.
Now, it will be a local production at Montgomery’s Shakespeare Festival — Dorothy and the munchkins speaking with a slight Alabama accent.
The play runs from now through August 17.
Details and tickets can be found here.
The production includes fog, haze and a projection resembling lightning.

Wondering how the local troupe produces what was once an MGM movie? There will be a free presentation open to the public called “ASF Insights.” ASF director Melissa Raine Anderson and artistic director Quin Gresham will lead an in-depth discussion about what it takes to transform a film heavily dependent on special effects to a local stage adaptation. The discussion will be on Saturday, July 12, at 12:45 p.m. in the ASF Patrons’ Lobby.
Alexis Kinney, the local actress portraying leading lady “Dorothy,” will sing the national anthem at the Montgomery Biscuits’ 6:35 p.m. baseball game on Wednesday, July 30.
“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Montgomery anymore.”
