On a Tuesday episode of Fox Business Network's "Kudlow," U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) discussed the likelihood of imposing fresh sanctions on Russia, while also slamming Senate Democrats for blocking the annual National Defense Authorization Act during a time of conflict.
"I think it's feasible," Tuberville said of passing sanctions. "I think we need to play hardball. Again, it all comes down to President Trump. He's the negotiator in chief. He can get this done without us really even being involved...But if we're going to get anything done like that, it won't be through Congress with sanctions on Russia. It's going to have to go through President Trump."
The legislator then took Democrats to task.
"I'll tell you what. Right now, with what's going on with Iran, the Democrats have lost their damn mind," contended Tuberville. "They today, for the first time in many, many years ... blocked the process of moving the NDAA to the next step, which is about four or five steps. They just voted against it. They were basically telling us now, we're done. We're not going to vote on anything for the rest of the year. We hate Donald Trump. We hate America. We hate the American people. We're for foreigners. We're for people who don't pay taxes."
"It is absolutely insane what's going on here," he added.
The Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) features multiple provisions from Tuberville, including one officially renaming the Department of Defense as the Department of War. Other Tuberville provisions grant a pay raise for members of the U.S. military, provide $500 million for updates at military bases across the state and allocate billions in additional funding to SPACECOM headquarters at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.
A separate provision in the NDAA would integrate the United States and Israeli militaries in an unprecedented fashion through combined research and development, joint production of weapons and the fusion of American and Israeli defense industries.
