Loved ones gathered to remember Hunter Lins on Sunday, the one-year anniversary of his death in Mobile.
Lins was one of two people shot on Feb. 1, 2025. Detectives said Lins got into an argument with Matthew Sanders inside the bar. Sanders was asked to leave, and when he did, prosecutors said Lins went outside to apologize. That's when the two got into a fight that ended in Sanders retrieving a gun from his vehicle and firing shots, prosecutors explained.
Sanders was arrested and charged with murder and first-degree assault. He has pleaded not guilty and claimed self-defense. His attorney said he was jumped outside the bar.
The bar has since been purchased by one of Lins' relatives. Fox 10 spoke with Dustin Sellers, who said it was important for loved ones to remember Lins.
"Hunter deserves this, you know? He deserves to be here, honestly. And the hurt in his mama's eyes, you know, she's gonna hurt for the rest of her life because her baby's gone," Sellers said.
Sanders was denied youthful offender status in the case and has been released on bond. His trial is set for August 31.
