Makayla Ann Anderton, 26, was arrested early Sunday morning after being stopped for a routine traffic stop where Madison County Deputies found a 15-year-old student in the car.

Deputies stopped Anderton at about 11:45 p.m. Saturday after they realized a student from the same Madison County School System where Anderton worked was in the vehicle with her. The Major Crimes Unit was called to conduct a full investigation.

Authorities say Anderton began conversations with the student that later became sexual in nature, and the two exchanged multiple photos, videos and explicit messages in addition to meeting to engage in various sexual acts.

According to WAFF, school officials said that Anderton was hired in April after successfully passing a background check by the Alabama State Department of Education. They also said the two had "interactions" before she was a school employee. Anderton worked in the school system's transportation department.

As of Sunday afternoon, Anderton is no longer an employee of the Madison County School System.

Anderton is charged with a school employee distributing obscene material to a student, statutory rape, sodomy and a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years.

Anderton was booked into the Madison County Jail on a $16,000 bond.
