The United States Postal Service (USPS) is asking for information in connection to a shooting that left a mail vehicle in Birmingham damaged.
The incident happened around 12:15 p.m. Monday, according to USPS communications specialist Debbie Fetterly.
Fetterly told 1819 News she does not have the specific location of where the shooting happened. She said the mail carrier was taken to the hospital to be checked for glass fragments.
“Shots were fires at all sides of the vehicle,” Fetterly added. “All the glass was broken. [The] carrier was not directly hit but was taken to a hospital.”
USPS is offering counseling services to the carrier and co-workers.
It is unclear if the mail truck was targeted.
The law enforcement arm of the USPS takes crimes against mail carriers very seriously. The Inspection Service launched Project Safe Delivery last year to address a surge in violent crimes against mail carriers.
