The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will close a portion of US-280 north of the Jefferson County/Shelby County line to complete a bridge demolition.

The highway will be closed in both directions on March 20. Eastbound lanes will remain closed through March 22. Westbound lanes will reopen each morning at 5 a.m. and will close each evening at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. on March 22.

The closure is part of work to widen the highway to four lanes in each direction from Lakeshore Parkway to Interstate 459.

ALDOT expects major delays and recommends drivers use Lakeshore Parkway to I-65 to I-459 to US-280 as a detour.
