OXFORD — This Easter weekend, a White Plains man gave a whole new meaning to the word "crosswalk."

Jeffry Crews spent much of his time giving back to the Lord by exhibiting his faith.

He walked along Golden Springs Road in Oxford for hours to remind drivers of the reason for the holiday. He signed "Jesus" and made a heart shape with his hands, meaning, "Jesus loves you."

"I'm here to represent my Lord and savior Jesus Christ," Crews told 1819 News. "I give my whole life, everything that I have to Him because I owe Him everything."

"He gave His life for me," Crews continued. "He laid it down, shed His blood, so I can have eternal life. Thank God for Him."

Crews said he walks with the cross as often as he can. He said he gets mixed reactions, but most of them are positive. Many drivers honk their horns as they go by and wave to thank him for reminding them that Easter is not all about bunnies and candy.

"Basically, I'm telling people Jesus loves them, He died for them and that's really it," Crews said.

By walking along a busy roadway, Crews said he hopes to reach a large audience.

"People's eternities are the highest value," he explained. "Jesus said, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

While Crews has a wheel on the bottom of his cross to make it easier to carry, he said he is thankful for the pain and suffering of his Savior.

"Jesus paid the ultimate price for all to be saved," he said. "We really can't understand the magnitude of how great of a sacrifice it was for God, but it's for each one of us so we can make it. It's the biggest need of humanity and the best gift that could ever be given."
