The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) announced the arrest of a man after a fatal crash in Summerdale.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Sanborn Avenue and Baldwin County 73.

A Jeep Wrangler driven by Thomas B. Harber, 67, of Summerdale, was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Harber, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee, Nemecio Cruz, was injured and transported to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. Upon his release, the 56-year-old was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Cruz was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Center without bond.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating.

According to court documents, Cruz has previous arrests and convictions for driving without a driver’s license, failure to display insurance and failure to appear.
