The suspect in a deadly triple shooting at a Bessemer gas station is facing capital murder, but according to court documents, it’s not his first time being the center of a shooting death investigation.

Raukeem Cunningham, 20, of Lipscomb, was arrested in 2022 for reckless murder in the death of a female minor. He posted bond and was released from jail. That bond has now been revoked. The trial for the case is scheduled for December.

In the new case, Cunningham is accused of opening fire at the Citgo on 4th Ave. North in Bessemer. Investigators believe at least one of the three victims killed was targeted. The shooter began firing outside of the store. When the victims ran inside, he followed them and executed them inside the store, police said.

Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley said the Citgo shooting and another shooting last week left nine people shot. He said the City is making safety a priority.

“I want to assure everyone that the Bessemer Police Department, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, is fully committed to conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation into these incidents,” he said in a statement. “We are utilizing all available resources to bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice.”

Gulley asked anyone with information to come forward.
