The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified a man killed in a freak accident at U.S. Steel in Birmingham.
Micheal Dewaine Townsend, 39, of Bessemer, sustained blunt force injuries when the railcar he was riding sideswiped another railcar Monday evening.
Townsend was transported to BMC Princeton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Townsend was in the same hospital just 10 months ago, as his wife fought for her life in the ICU. After three days, Jennifer Townsend, 35, passed away on July 31. The Townsends were the parents of four young children.
Michael Townsend’s death is being investigated by U.S. Steel, OSHA and the NTSB.
