Mardrecus Quartez Hardy, 42, died 11 days after he was found unresponsive in the 6800 block of Division Avenue on July 5. Family members checking on Hardy discovered him inside the residence.
They told dispatchers Hardy was deceased. Authorities arrived and realized he was alive. They transported him to UAB Hospital, where it was discovered Hardy had life-threatening injuries caused by gunfire.
On July 12, Birmingham Police sent out a press release stating Hardy had died. However, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said Hardy passed away at 10:30 a.m. on July 16.
BPD Homicide and Felony Assault detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made.
