On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) alleged that former special prosecutor Jack Smith illegally obtained text messages from 44 members of Congress in his pursuit of criminal charges against President Donald Trump.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said Wednesday on Newsmax's "Rob Schmitt Tonight" that Grassley's revelations were another example of how Smith "weaponized" the Biden administration against his political enemies.

"I think you unleash federal investigators and prosecutors to be able to look at what's going on," Marshall said. "Look, we've already seen from Senator Grassley a rollout of the effort of Jack Smith and others that were doing the Biden administration's work to be able to look at the records of federal officials. Now, we know it's gone even farther, violating protocols against not only what the law requires, but the internal policies of the Department of Justice to weaponize that administration to go after their political enemies."

Marshall added that Acting United States Attorney General Todd Blanche, who appeared before the Senate on Wednesday for a confirmation hearing, had an "obligation" to investigate these claims and "hold those individuals accountable."
