Thursday marks 24 years since the September 11, 2001, attacks that took the lives of nearly 3,000 people.
While there were observances in locations of the terror attacks in New York, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa., Alabamians all came together in honoring those who lost their lives and put their lives in danger to save others. They also vowed never to forget that solemn day a near quarter-century ago.
Alabama's sports teams and universities also paid tribute to 9/11.
The University of South Alabama and Troy University each held a Stair Climb Challenge on Thursday morning at their football stadiums to honor 9/11 first responders.
There is also a traveling exhibit put on by the City of Opelika running from September 11 through September 16 to commemorate 9/11.
