Men United Against Violence (MUAV) in Mobile put up a new billboard at the busy intersection of Springhill Avenue and North Broad Street to remind parents to be present in their children’s lives.

“Your children are YOUR responsibility,” the billboard reads.

MUAV founder and Mobile Police Sgt. John Young said that while the city and civic organizations provide activities for children throughout the summer, the ultimate responsibility lies at home.

“We need to be more active in our children’s lives to help decrease crime this summer and to keep them out of trouble,” Young said. “It is primarily our responsibility.”

Young founded MUAV following two 2022 shootings that claimed the lives of Laquinten Morrissette and Ciarra Jackson. The shootings enraged Young, who called for change.

The new billboard will be displayed through July.
