U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed an immigration detainer on a Mexican man after the brutal rape of a woman in Limestone County.
The victim was rescued on April 25 after the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Coffman Road.
The woman was bleeding from her head, and her clothing was torn.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the victim had recently ended a relationship with Valencia, which reportedly enraged him,” the sheriff’s office stated. “Valencia is accused of assaulting the victim by striking her with a glass jar, binding and choking her, and subsequently committing sexual assault.”
Miraculously, the woman was able to escape to a bathroom and call 911. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Luis Enrique Valencia, 23, of Mexico, was taken into custody from the scene. He was charged with first-degree rape, second-degree domestic violence and domestic violence strangulation or suffocation.
Although an Aniah’s Law hearing could be held to ensure Valencia is not released on bond, the ICE detainer could lead to deportation.
