A Mexican national is accused of illegally voting in multiple elections in Marion County.
Homero Ramos, 51, is charged with violating Alabama law and is facing five years in prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Catherine L. Crosby said Ramos is a lawful permanent resident but that he has never obtained U.S. citizenship. Despite not being a citizen, Ramos registered to vote in Marion County and did so in the 2022 and 2024 general elections, the complaint states.
Ramos was arrested on a federal offense following a Homeland Security and the Secretary of State’s Office investigation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett A. Janich is prosecuting the case.
Ramos is considered innocent until proven guilty.
