MOBILE – Brandon Clarke, a resident of Mobile, decided to start picking up trash near his home one day. Eventually, his Midtown-area neighbors began to pitch in, and the group grew to around 50.

They call it the “Mobile litter pickup walk,” and every Saturday, they join together.

Clarke provides trash bags, gloves, water and other supplies. So far, the group has collected nearly 150 gallons of trash. He told 1819 News one of the best parts of the walk is the neighborly bonding.

“I think my most attended person, other than my close friends, has been my one-year-old neighbor across the street,” Clarke said. “He picks up a lot of bubble gum wrappers and shiny things.”

The group has a Facebook page to announce exact locations. Weather permitting, they meet every Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
