Mike Densmore, a local businessman and pastor, announced on Thursday that he is running to be the next mayor of Alexander City.

Densmore is challenging incumbent Alexander City Mayor Woody Baird. Election day is August 26.

“As mayor, I will listen to the people of Alex City, and I will represent their interests,” said Densmore. “When you are a public servant, you work for the people, and I believe my time in business and serving as a pastor in this community gives me a unique perspective on moving our city forward.”

Densmore was born and raised in Alexander City. He is a graduate of Benjamin Russell High School and attended Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Mike was also a member of the football and wrestling teams at Auburn.

Densmore began his career as a teacher and coach at Gadsden City Schools before joining the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. After three decades, Mike retired from Goodyear as the director of Global Strategic Planning and Organization Development.

Additionally, Mike has served as a pastor for over 40 years and has been active in various community and charitable organizations, including chairing the Russell Medical Foundation Strategic Planning Committee, the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way.

“At Goodyear, I served on the site selection team, so I know what makes a city desirable to potential investors and how to take Alex City to the next level,” said Densmore. “As mayor, I will leverage my three decades of business experience to foster a pro-growth environment.”

He continued, “This campaign is not about me. It is about Alex City’s future. It is time to get serious about enhancing our children’s educational outcomes, promoting economic growth, investing in our infrastructure, and improving our citizens’ quality of life.”

Densmore has been married to his wife, Patsy-Coe, for 42 years, and they have two sons and three grandchildren.
