In a display of offensive firepower and solid pitching, the Crimson Tide extended their home win streak to a Division I-leading 18 games with the season sweep of Samford.
Alabama wasted little time getting the bats going on Tuesday, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first to set the tone of the game. The first three Crimson Tide batters reached base to load the bases, setting up Jason Torres for a two-run single and an RBI single from Eric Hines. Chase Kroberger drove in the final run of the inning on a fielder’s choice.
Samford responded with two runs in the top of the second inning to cut the lead in half, but the game would never get any closer the rest of the night.
The offensive explosion continued the rest of the night for the Crimson Tide, matching the four runs scored in the first inning by scoring four runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
Seven different Alabama players recorded an RBI on Tuesday night, led by Hines’ 3-for-3 night with a home run and three RBI, and Luke Vaughn’s three RBI night by way of a three-run home run in the third.
Freshman Kroberger finished 1-for-2 at the dish, highlighted by a two-run home run in the third, his first career home run for the Crimson Tide.
JT Blackwood got the start for Alabama and recorded his first win of the season. The senior allowed two runs and six hits over his 4.2 innings of work. Connor Lehman and Anthony Pesci came in relief and got the final seven outs of the game without allowing a hit.
With the win, the Crimson Tide improve to 26-8 overall and remain 8-4 in the SEC on the season.
