The Dothan Police Department arrested a 17-year-old boy Friday night after they said he shot at a girl who wouldn't give him her phone number.

Police responded to Solomon Park, off Choctaw Street, at 7:30 p.m. to reports of shots fired. They stopped a car with several juveniles inside, found firearms in the vehicle and spent shell casings in the park.

Criminal investigators identified one of the juveniles as a suspect and interviewed him.

"According to witnesses and the suspect, the suspect, a 17-year-old male was angry at the target of the shooting because she had not given him her phone number at school earlier in the day," police said in a statement. "At Solomon Park, the suspect saw the victim with her boyfriend and opened fire with a 9mm handgun."

The teen was arrested and charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree attempted assault. He was booked into the Houston County Jail.

Police said they take this type of conduct "very seriously," but they are not releasing the suspect's name or mugshot.
